Version 1 Retirement FAQs

How do I know if I am using R.O. Writer Version 1?

Start your R.O. Writer and click on Help>About. A window will display showing your version number. If your version number shows 1.24, 1.25, 1.27, 1.28, 1.29, 1.30 or 1.31, then you are using Version 1 and you need to upgrade to Version 3.

When will Version 1 no longer work?

The software will officially no longer be updated starting January 1, 2023. R.O. Writer will slowly lose functionality as various components on which it depends (such as Internet Explorer) lose support from their vendors.

What is actually changing?

Starting January 1 2023, R.O. Writer will no longer provide patches to Version 1. Additionally, we will no longer install additional workstations or replace servers with Version 1.

Will I still be able to get support after January 1, 2023?
Yes, our Support team will continue to work with your shop to address any issues that come up.

What will that support look like?
It will depend on the specific issue involved. For some issues, there will be no difference (ie. configuration issues). For other issues, such as features which are dependent on integrations, the only path for resolution will be to upgrade to Version 3. In other cases, such as server replacement, we will upgrade to Version 3 as part of the replacement.

How much will it cost to migrate from R.O. Writer Version 1 to R.O. Writer Version 3?

All customers that participate in our maintenance plan are eligible for a free upgrade to R.O. Writer Version 3.
